What's New in Moodle 3.4.4

UR Courses was upgraded to Moodle 3.4.4 for the Fall 2018 semester.

The latest version of UR Courses has some new features worth noting and numerous bug fixes. We even support emoji now! 😊

Messaging improvements

New messages are now highlighted with a number in the messaging menu at the top of the screen.


Note that the number reflects the number of people who have sent new messages, and not the actual number of new messages.


Navigation

The Grades (or Gradebook) link has been moved from within the Settings block to the Navigation block (for both students and instructors)


Changing roles

The Switch role to... link has been moved from within the Settings block to the User menu



Stealth activities - available but not shown

An improvement on what is referred to as orphaned sections, links can now be made to activities which are not shown on the course page. See Stealth activities for more information.

Better activity completion management

Bulk edit and update activity completion settings in your courses.

Mark activities as complete

Instructors can now manually mark activities as complete (or incomplete) on behalf of students.

Activity chooser preference

The option to turn the Activity chooser on or off (the default is on), has been moved to user preferences. Disabling the activity chooser results in two dropdown menus for selecting resources and activities.


Assignment overrides

Collapsible comments

Collapse assignment feedback comments for greater readability. Read more...


Negative scores for rubrics

The Rubrics grade calculation has been improved and now allows for negative scores.


Delete multiple questions at once

it is now possible to delete more than one question by pressing the Select multiple items button and choosing the questions to be removed.


cloze MULTICHOICE question type

You can now allow multiple answers within a cloze MULTICHOICE question type.


Select for students in Choice

It is now possible for an instructor to make a selection on behalf of students in the Choice activity.


Dates

  • You can now specify open and close dates separately.

  • The deadline for making a choice is now displayed within the course calendar.


Orientation

When the choice display is set horizontal or vertical, it is now applied to both the options and results display screens.


Mark as read on notification preference

It is now possible to specify whether or not Forum posts will be marked as read when receiving email notifications.


Lock after inactivity

It is now possible to enable the automatic locking of an individual forum discussion after a specified period of inactivity occurs (1 week, 1 month, etc)


Numerous improvements

  • Navigating through the calendar no longer requires a page reload.

  • Added support for drag and drop of calendar events

  • Calendar entries in monthly view now include course shortname

  • Improved media management functionality

  • Access logs and improved statistics
